The secret of good health lies not in non-exposure to the bacteria and diseases, which are indeed all around us, but the ability to withstand them and flush them out effectively if they do infact, pass the primary defences. The ability to withstand, and if necessary fight disease, is termed the immune system, and this to a great extent is governed by the effective functioning of the thymus gland. A vital factor in immunity is also uptake of anti-oxidant vitamins such as A, C and E which maybe present in the diet but unless effectively absorbed by the gut will present a greater risk of weakening immunity when deficient.
